Violence Prevention Video Training at Tarrant College

Many higher education institutions in the US have to provide specific sexual nonviolence training to students, but Tarrant County College wanted to do something more meaningful than simply “checking the box” with paper or course-based content. By creating video content with common scenarios, the organization was able to have a more meaningful impact on students, ultimately lowering the risk of these incidents on campus. This earned the Texas-based organization a Gold Award for Best Use of Video in the 2015 Excellence Awards.

Using Video for Ethics Training at Lockheed Martin

The defense industry’s history includes unethical practices in the 1970’s-80s that led to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the formation of the Defense Industry Initiative on Business Ethics and Conduct. Since its founding in 1995, it has been essential to Lockheed Martin Corporation to set the highest ethical standard, avoiding even the appearance of any improprieties. This is the driver for the company to utilize video in its “Voicing Our Values” ethics training program, helping to bring situations to life and explain complex concepts in a user-friendly medium. This program earned Lockheed Martin a Gold Award for Best Use of Video in the 2015 Excellence Awards Program.

Game-Based Learning and Gamification

One of the themes of this year’s Excellence Conference (held Jan. 27-29) is this: learning doesn’t have to occur in a classroom to be effective. Of the variety of learning methods, games are a powerful tool to help engage learners and support the learning process. And use of games is deeply tied to engagement. 49% of companies that see engagement as a strategic priority are using games and gamification elements. The Big Reveal: Brandon Hall Group’s EVP Framework

According to Brandon Hall Group’s 2015 EVP survey, 67% of organizations surveyed do not understand the components of their EVP and only 15% have a well-defined and communicated EVP.
