Focusing on Learning in 2013

Is growth on your agenda for 2013? If so, learning needs to be at the center of your talent discussion. As organizations look to grow or re-invent their businesses in today’s shifting markets, learning is the one tool that allows organizations to respond quickly to market needs while improving long term sustainability.

In a recent Brandon Hall Group Webinar entitled “New Year, New Directions” participants were asked “What will be your biggest focus in 2013?” over 60% of the 110 respondents were going to implement new learning technologies or roll out new learning programs.

The learning and development space is currently undergoing two distinct shifts. The first is a shift of how and what people are learning, and the second shift involves companies focusing on growth by tying learning to talent management.

As companies see a shift in how and what people are learning, they are rethinking their approach to learning and development. Over the last 100 years we have seen a progression in the learning industry from teaching centered learning, to learner centered learning, and today we see an emerging model focused on relationships. This shift has huge implications for learners, learning systems, and learning leaders. To learn more about this shift from teaching centered learning to relationship centered learning join Brandon Hall Group’s Stacey Harris and David Wentworth for a webinar on the Relationship Centered Learning Ecosystem.

Connecting the growth of people individually to the business as a whole, the second shift in the learning space involves connecting the learning function to talent management. To grow as an organization learning and development needs to be tied to what’s happening on the talent management front. In a recent Brandon Hall Group Paper entitled Learning: Puts the “Heart” in Talent Management the connections between learning and talent management are examined and key practices in leveraging learning within your talent management strategy, and tools for ensuring an effective strategy implementation, are discussed.  We invite you to download a complimentary copy of this white paper.
