Meridian Wins Brandon Hall Technology Award for LMS Reporting

Herndon, Va. – January 3, 2013 – Meridian Knowledge Solutions’ Ad-Hoc Reporting software won a Silver Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award for Unique Learning Technology. Judges credited the software for combining learning data with sales and customer data, so organizations can report on how training efforts meet business goals.

“This award recognizes how we’ve met one of the training industry’s top challenges: No matter how many ‘canned’ reports an LMS vendor develops, there will always be a time when an organization wants to report on its training data in an unforeseen way,” said John Leh, vice president of sales and marketing for Meridian. “Ad-Hoc Reporting gives managers a way to create the reports they need and combine training data with other types of company data to gauge the success of professional development vis-à-vis business goals.”

The Ad-Hoc Reporting product complements Meridian Global LMS, which is software that links people to courses, documents, data, instructors and other learners at any time from a desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device.

Routinely, training administrators rely on their LMS vendor to develop custom reports. If a manager’s need for a particular kind of data is urgent, managers cannot always wait on their LMS vendor to build a customized report. So managers often cobble together several standard reports or go without the data they need when they want it.

“One of the top jobs of a learning management system is reporting. Pulling the information from an LMS that an executive, manager or regulator needs when they want it and in a manner that makes sense is critical,” said Mike Cooke, chief executive officer of Brandon Hall Group.

For example, a Meridian customer wanted to use of a variety of standard and customized reports that required integration with its analytics engine. The reports were designed to identify weak areas in business performance and attempt to identify employees who were prime candidates for training focused on a business metric. The reports had to consist of parameters using the employer’s metadata and had to pull data from the inception of the training program; so that, the managers could track trends, click-through results, lists of employees viewing the different types of content and product use by regions.

With Ad-Hoc Reporting, the customer customized the data needed through the software’s user interface. The organization’s LMS administrator added fields throughout Meridian’s LMS with a few keystrokes. These fields were part of an automatic option in the Ad-Hoc Reporting software, and not created in an “SQL-Query way.” The LMS administrator chose the type of report they wanted from the Meridian LMS, and all of the fields and tables were exposed.

“Meridian’s Ad-Hoc Reporting software creates a unique link between a system’s data and what a manager needs to justify or evaluate training,” added Cooke.
