Vensure: A Comprehensive HCM Solution
for SMBs and Beyond

Recently, Brandon Hall Group™ had the opportunity to conduct a briefing with Vensure, a powerhouse in the Human Capital Management (HCM) industry. Led by CEO Alex Campos and CTO Kevin Andrews, Vensure shared insights into their impressive growth, innovative technology solutions, and strategic vision for the future.

Vensure: A Hidden Giant in HCM

While Vensure may not be a household name, their impact on the HCM landscape is undeniable. As one of the largest HCM organizations in the United States, Vensure’s reach extends far beyond what many might expect. With operations spanning all 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries, Vensure has quietly become a global player in the HCM space.

Vensure processes $58 billion in direct annual payroll, with their total HCM and HRO annual payroll processing reaching $153 billion. This translates to serving over 3.8 million worksite employees across more than 141,000 clients. With over 5,400  employees, Vensure has established itself as a major force in the industry.

Business Structure and Strategy

Vensure operates through two main business units:

  • Direct to SMB: Selling Professional Employer Organization (PEO)/HCM technology, services and benefits directly to employers.
  • Indirect to SMB: Providing technology to HR service providers who serve employers.

Vensure’s Portfolio: Key Acquisitions and Brands

The company has grown significantly through acquisitions, completing over 80 in just six years. Their strategy, as Campos puts it, is “We buy that which accelerates, we build that which differentiates.”

Notable acquisitions include:

  • PrismHR: Acquired about two years ago, PrismHR has been a game-changer for Vensure. This acquisition significantly expanded Vensure’s technology offerings and client base in the HR service provider market.
  • Namely: This acquisition brought award-winning UI/UX design to Vensure’s platform. Namely’s interface has been propagated throughout Vensure’s ecosystem, creating a unified user experience across all products.
  • Global People: A recent acquisition that expanded Vensure’s global payroll capabilities, particularly in the Employer of Record (EOR) space.
  • Tandem HR: Acquired in 2024, Tandem HR was Vensure’s 79th acquisition in six years and one of its largest in the PEO space. This addition enhances Vensure’s capacity to serve small and mid-sized businesses with comprehensive HR solutions.
  • PrismHR Retirement Services (formerly United 401k): This acquisition marks Vensure’s entry into the retirement services business, with ambitious goals for assets under management.

These acquisitions demonstrate Vensure’s commitment to expanding their capabilities across the HCM spectrum, from core payroll and HR functions to specialized services like global payroll and retirement planning. Each of these companies continues to operate under Vensure’s umbrella, contributing to the comprehensive suite of services that Vensure offers to its clients.

Technology Innovations

Vensure has made significant strides in unifying and enhancing their technology platform:

  1. Unified User Experience: They’ve implemented a consistent UI/UX across all their products, based on the award-winning Namely interface.
  2. Comprehensive Suite: Their platform now includes native modules for applicant tracking, workforce management, performance management, and benefits management.
  3. AI Integration: Vensure is leveraging AI for both internal efficiency and client-facing solutions, with 74 AI-driven initiatives in development.
  4. Global Capabilities: The company has expanded into global payroll and EOR services, with an “Augmented EOR” offering.

What Sets Vensure Apart

  1. Unified Platform: Vensure offers a single, cohesive system that can support businesses from startup through enterprise-level growth.
  2. Mid-Market Focus: They’re bringing enterprise-level tools and capabilities to the underserved mid-market segment.
  3. Global Reach: Vensure’s ability to support both domestic and international workforce needs sets them apart in the SMB space.
  4. Acquisition Strategy: Their approach to strategic acquisitions allows them to rapidly expand capabilities and market share.

Looking Ahead: Vensure’s Ambitious Vision

The company’s leadership has articulated a clear vision of continued expansion, both in terms of global reach and technological capabilities.

We anticipate that Vensure will continue to leverage its successful acquisition strategy to broaden its service offerings and enter new markets. This approach, combined with their focus on technological innovation, particularly in AI and machine learning, positions them to stay at the forefront of HCM solutions.

Vensure’s commitment to serving the mid-market segment with enterprise-level tools suggests that we can expect to see more tailored solutions for this often-underserved market. Their “Augmented EOR” offering is likely to evolve, potentially revolutionizing how businesses manage their global workforce.

Vensure’s combination of strategic acquisitions, technological innovation and focus on the mid-market segment makes them a company to watch in the evolving HCM landscape. Their ability to support businesses from startup through global expansion, all on a unified platform, addresses a significant need in the market. As they continue to grow and innovate, Vensure is well-positioned to become an even more influential HCM player.
