UKG Uses Generative AI to Accelerate Payroll Reporting

Generative AI (GenAI) is seemingly everywhere, but in human capital management it is far more likely to be used in learning and development and talent acquisition than workforce management, Brandon Hall Group™ research shows.

But UKG, a leading provider of HR, payroll and workforce management solutions, has stepped up — using GenAI to transform payroll reporting within its UKG Pro suite.

UKG’s integration of GenAI into the payroll reporting process, announced at the 42nd annual Payroll Congress Convention and Expo, addresses one of the most significant challenges faced by payroll teams — the time-consuming and often tedious process of searching, reviewing and auditing large datasets for specific information.

Using GenAI enables users to uncover insights and create dashboards with explanations through a simple question-and-answer interaction. By leveraging conversational experiences, payroll professionals can dramatically accelerate the process of retrieving critical information, such as identifying employees who still receive physical paychecks or those who have reached the Social Security wage limit.

This innovation enhances accuracy and also frees up valuable time for payroll teams to focus on other strategic priorities that contribute to the overall success of the organization and its people.

“With generative AI, we’re dramatically reducing payroll complexity by making critical payroll data easily searchable and accessible through conversational experiences, while also putting that information into actionable context for payroll teams,” said Hugo Sarrazin, chief product and technology officer at UKG.

Beyond payroll processing and reporting, UKG has embedded GenAI throughout the Pro suite to empower all employees, regardless of their role or location, to accomplish more during their everyday work. The AI-powered features include conversational search, which understands a user’s language and intent to deliver better results, as well as summarization, classification and content creation capabilities that help organizations identify trends, provide guidance and generate unique content based on existing data.

The AI in the Pro suite is powered by UKG Bryte, an AI assistant that is part of Pro’s architecture and trained on the world’s largest collection of people data, work data and culture data. By leveraging this vast repository of information, along with leading Large Language Foundational Models from Google Cloud and the customer’s unique data, UKG Bryte provides employees with guidance, recommendations and proactive nudges grounded in proven strategies.

UKG’s innovative approach to leveraging generative AI in payroll reporting and throughout its Pro suite is a significant step forward in the industry. Using AI to simplify complex processes, provide actionable insights and empower employees at all levels, UKG is raising the bar on how organizations can optimize their workforce and drive better business outcomes.
